A hotel is not an isolated building. It is a node within flows of energy, water, materials, ecology, food, labour, culture, community, capital and information. The Standard is systematic and holistic, context-sensitive, performance-based, and complementary to existing schemes. Conservation precedes substitution. Waste is a failed or incomplete flow.
